Fall Hair Color Guide

_50A0337 copy.jpg

Hi guys! I have been questions about my hair recently – my recent hair posts (HERE, HERE and HERE) were pretty successful, so I wanted to share my favorite new fall hair color trends for fall. I see a lot of articles about haircuts, but not that many that talk about switching up your color for new seasons. There are some common trends to follow – go dark for winter and lighter for summer, but doesn’t that feel a little dated?

I love switching up my hair at least once a year, and instead of going dark for fall this year, I wanted to more blonde! For today’s post I’m sharing 5 of my favorite color trends that you’re about to see everywhere! For more hair inspiration, follow my hair Pinterest board HERE,

1. Golden Bronde

This Golden Bronde look is basically everything I aspire my hair to be – it’s a warm blonde-ish brown so it’s not light or too dark for the fall and winter season. The various shades of color will add dimension to your hair and it’s really easy to maintain by adding some pops of highlights every couple of months.

2. Warm Copper

I seriously miss my redhead days. I first started out with a deep red color and eventually went copper. This color perfectly matches the falling leaves, PSL’s (haha) and a fun dramatic change. If you’re naturally a blonde, light brunette or something in-between, this can be a great new color for you!

3. “Grown Out” Roots

Let your lazy girl be free and grow out those roots and don’t bother touching them up! It’s officially trendy for darker, more natural roots to show.  This trend is perfect for me because I rarely have time to upkeep with my color appointments, plus it’s so much healthier for your hair.

Ditch your caramel highlights this fall and add more dimension to your hair with a little touch of cinnamon chocolate. Doesn’t it sound delicious?! The only difference with this color trend is by just adding auburn tones to your brunette hair. It adds a subtle dimension and color to your hair.

5. Sandy Beige

Yes, that’s right, you can keep your blonde highlights this fall! However, make sure to add some low lights, or opt for an ashier blonde in the mix. It’s a great transition color from your light summer blonde to a darker color for the season.

10. Colorful

This fall there are a lot of lavenders, blues, and dark greens on many heads. If you’re looking for a huge change, dye your hair a funky color! I know I’ve always wanted to do this trend but haven’t actually gone through. However, if you have the guts go for it! I know I love seeing colorful hair as I walk down the street.

Fall/Winter 2017 Trend Report: Beauty + Hair

SIMPLYAUDREEKATE.TREND.HAIRBEAUTY.png

It’s the first “official” day of New York Fashion Week, and it’s my last day of SAK fashion week trend reports! I’m sharing some of my favorite beauty and hair trends this season. It’s all about adding pops of color and the “not-so-perfect” look from smudged eyeshadow and that “just made out” lip stain. Which is your favorite trend? Let me know in the comments below! xo

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.Lashes.pngThis year on the runway, Twiggy inspired lashes were all the rage. To get this look I suggest false individual lashes, bottom specific mascara or drawing on fake lashes under your eye. The dramatic bottom lashes almost act as a reverse smoky eye and and can make your eyes appear larger. Screen Shot 2017-09-06 at 10.07.02 PM.png

5 year old me would have loved this trend because who else has trouble getting their lipstick to stay “within the lines”. This trend is no fuss, if it rubs off or goes all around, no worries! I definitely think that this is one of the most unique trends this season!

Channel your early 2000’s ladies, because it’s time to bring back frosty eyes! Pearl, silver, and blue will be seen on every eye this season!

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.waves.pngCan’t say goodbye to your summer beach waves? Say hello to the fall waves. These cool girl loose waves are easy to maintain and will be the effortless look this season. I recommend using a texture spray and a large barrel curling iron or (my new favorite) Beachwaver!

As you can tell, 90’s inspiration is taking all forms this season, but I’m mostly excited for the 90’s makeup trend that is coming back. I typically opt for a dark lip during fall and winter, but I’m really, like REALLY into this dark mauve eye from the La Perla show.

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.smudge.pngBold eyeshadow is not new to the runway; we saw it last season and it is here this season, but what I’m loving about this smudged eyelid look (just like the “just made out” lips) is that they don’t have to be perfect.  You can easily swipe it on with your finger – practically as you’re running out of the door. This is every lazy girls dream!

Bangs are nothing new, but now they’re taking over the runway! Choppy, straight across, 70s inspired – whatever you want, bangs are in! Sometimes it is hard to take the leap and cut bangs but from experience, it can be a fun and instant change and update to your face!

How to Create Messy Waves for Fall with The Beachwaver

SimplyAudreeKate_0350

Is anyone else feeling a little nostalgic that summer is coming to a close? I’m already kind of sad to say goodbye to the beach, salty hair and sunshine. But, just because summer is ending, it doesn’t mean your beach waves have to. I get a lot of questions from you guys about my hair and how I curl it. I have a few different ways I curl my hair – from wrapping it around the barrel to create the messy beach wave, to curling it regularly away from my face to create soft romantic curls.

I haven’t had the opportunity to really dive into my hair curling routine on the blog yet, so I wanted to kick off the fall season with a new type of hair tutorial – how to create the perfect messy waves for fall! Messy waves were all over the F/W 17 runway and it’s the perfect transition to take your summer beach waves into the cooler season.

I’ve been seeing the The Beachwaver all over social media the past couple of years; it has been the curling iron used in the Victoria Secret Fashion Show and I’ve been very curious to see how it really worked. I have been using the same salon brand curling iron for over 10 years – just updating the barrel every few years, but I wanted to try something new this season. I typically use a 3/4 inch barrel because I have really thick hair so it naturally falls throughout the day and goes from a fairly tight curl to a soft romantic wave. When I was picking out my Beachwaver, I wanted to try a larger, 1 inch barrel since my hair is now longer and can hold a larger curl; so I ended up choosing the Beachwaver S1!

Keep scrolling to see how I curled my hair with The Beachwaver!

First and foremost, The Beachwaver is a rotating curling iron! You clip your hair in and hit a button to rotate your hair towards or away from your face. It is seriously so little effort it’s crazy. I typically split my hair into 3 sections and curl my hair away from my face. I always leave about an inch or so of hair outside of the clip so my hair looks more naturally wavy versus defined ringlets. I take about 1 to 1.5 inch sections of hair to curl in the bottom two sections and then take slightly smaller pieces on the top layer and bangs. The waves look best with different size curls, so don’t feel like you have to do everything so precise.

Once you’ve curled your hair, run your fingers through, add product and scrunch, twist the ends and even flip your hair once or twice to create the perfect messy waves for fall. xo

5 Makeup Tips for Gals with Glasses

SimplyAudreeKate.EyewearBeauty.png

Overall, my makeup routine is fairly simple. When I first started wearing makeup, I would never dare leave the house without eyeliner or even a fully shadowed eyelid. Maybe it came with age, moving to New York, or my pure lack of laziness, but I’ve now embraced a minimal face (with the exception of a bold lip). As a part-time glasses wearing gal, I have five makeup tips I sharing with you today! Wearing dark makeup can really weigh down your face, especially if you wear thick or oversized frames, so make sure to keep things light, bright and fun!

Also, last summer I was a makeup model for a story at Redbook magazine (HERE). I was one of the only ladies at the office who wore glasses and I was SO excited to work with makeup artist, Mally Roncal on this fun look! In the story we did a colorful shadowed eye to enhance my green eyes, and for my look on the blog today, I decided to do the opposite and keep my eye makeup completely minimal – with the added pop of red lipstick of course! Here we go! xo

1.Keep Lids Light

All the focus will be on your eyes when you wear glasses, so don’t weigh down your face with a dark smoky eye – opt for light shadows or a more brown/neutral smoky eye. For this look I simply just used my highlighter on my lids and inner eye area to brighten things up. I also nixed the eyeliner and just did mascara. Make sure to look for a mascara that will volumize your lashes, not lengthen – you don’t want them to brush along your lenses all day.

2.Enhance Your Eye Color with Complimentary Eyeshadow Shades

As displayed in the Redbook article, if you’re going to do an eyeshadow, make sure it compliments your eye color. We used purple tones to brighten up my green eyes! If you’re interested in finding out the shades that work best for your color, read HERE.

3.Use White Eyeliner on Water Line

This is an age old trick my mom taught me when I started doing makeup. If you’re wanting to brighten up your eyes, appear more awake or make them look larger, swipe white eyeliner on your bottom water line. If you don’t have any, You can use a light shadow or place highlighter under your lash line and inner eye area.

4.Use Eyeliner Lighter Than Your Frames

Most makeup tricks I’ve read about eyewear beauty, is to use eyeliner lighter than your frames. You can try for a brown or colored eyeliner so your eyes stay bright behind the frames. If you’re a die-hard black eyeliner girl, like me, either try a cat eye to draw attention up and outwards, or just stick with a thin line on the top lids.

5.Don’t Forget Concealer!

I feel like most of my glasses-wearing friends say they don’t wear concealer because they feel like the frames will hide their under eye circles; but the shadows created by the glasses can actually make your dark circles look worse! I naturally have insanely dark circles under my eyes (see the Redbook article for a good laugh) so I always make sure to wear a brightening concealer.
